Rebecca Minkoff influences my new workout regime

Rebecca Minkoff Almond and Black Travel Tote

Lucky Duck buys a Rebecca Minkoff tote for the gym.

I’ve been a Chelsea Equinox member for over a year, and today, I upped the ante – I signed up for the Passport membership! There were a couple of solid reasons for the extra $43/month spend:

  1. This means that I can go to any Equinox location in the world. Chances are, I’ll only be hitting up New York, but it gives me a better chance to work out with #myfavorite, and hit the hamster wheel even if I have dinner out on the town with friends. It’s also a solid basecamp for Springtime runs in Central Park.
  2. And now, I have numerous spots to use the restroom in New York City, a huge plus.

Gearing up for the Passport

When you live in Manhattan, you’re on foot and carry everything everywhere. If I want to be enthused to carry my gym bag from Chelsea to Columbus Circle, the Lucky Duck Duffle would have to go. It not only looks a bit goofy, but it’s awkward and doesn’t hold nearly enough. See the huge difference between the Rebecca Minkoff tote that I bought on and this:

Lucky Duck Gym Bag

At the slightest pain in my foot the other day, I ordered new running shoes to prevent injury. Mizuno stopped making the Wave Alchemy, but the Mizuno Wave Paradox is supposed to be a solid replacement. I should get them this week, and I can review more then, but I will say that I’m thrilled that they don’t come in Easter egg pastel colors. I can’t stand when they do that to Women’s Running shoes.

Mizuno Wave Paradox

I even filled up my toiletries bag with fresh, high quality travel sized products from Sephora, including a Clarisonic Mia. I didn’t need to pack shampoo; Equinox provides Kiehl’s.

One last nod to Rebecca Minkoff

Last year, I sat front row at Rebecca Minkoff’s runway show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, in the blizzard. I had on Sperry snow boots and a Mackage winter jacket.

My shots from front row Rebecca Minkoff

Now it’s time to lace up those sneakers!

You can have the membership and the bag, but if you don’t go, it’s pointless. So keep me honest! My goal is to hit it up four times a week and go from there.

GLITTERRINGS dazzles on 5th Avenue in NYC

Lucky Duck gets a close look at the newest collections in the GLITTERRINGS showroom.

And as always, GLITTERRINGS doesn’t disappoint. I own two GORGEOUS GLITTERRINGS pieces and tonight, I picked up my third — the beautiful, featured ring from the Jet and Rhodium Collection.

GLITTERRINGS Jet and Rhodium Collection

A premium, high quality product

You don’t have to get up close and personal to notice that a GLITTERRINGS piece is high quality. You can see the spectacular-ness coming from a mile away. Made with materials such as brass, real Austrian crystals, and cubic zirconia, it’s not your average piece of costume jewelry. Having said that, GLITTERRINGS are incredibly affordable because you’re buying directly from the source. See the website for yourself.

In this video, you can see firsthand what it’s like inside the GLITTERRINGS showroom and hear my opinion on why I love this product so much.

I’m living every girl’s dream right now. I’m  literally in the GLITTERRINGS showroom, which is a human, life-sized jewelry box, and I can’t get enough…” – Shannon Truax

Consider gifting GLITTERRINGS this holiday

As I mentioned in the video, a GLITTERRRINGS piece makes a fantastic Christmas present, and it’s also a nice gift for yourself to rock at your holiday parties this year.

This is a statement piece that will stand out. – Shannon Truax

Jacqueline Laurita’s Lasio event as John Basedow’s +1

Shannon Truax on John Basedow's website

Lucky Duck is John Basedow’s date at the Lasio red carpet event in New York City.

I’ve covered this many times over, but it never gets old – John Basedow rocks. 5th Avenue was rockin last night between 29th and 30th, and I was a lucky guest at the fabulous event thrown by Jacqueline Laurita and Tene Nicole PR, @tenenicolepr.

You know her from The Real Housewives of New Jersey

Jacqueline is more beautiful in person than on TV, and she was absolutely lovely on the inside too. I was so happy to be a guest of such a gracious host.

As John and I were kicking it at the party, one of my favorite people spun up a couple of memes, ready to rival that of Nyan Cat and Scumbag Steve. I think we might have a new internet sensation on our hands…

United Colors of Fashion Gala in New York City

Shannon Truax and Saunak Shah

Lucky Duck walks the red carpet at the New York City Gala.

Saunak Shah, of Saunak Shah Photography, can rock a tux. Aside from the hunky James Bond thing he has going on, he’s an incredible artist who I like and respect very much. He’s at the top of the creative world in NYC, is currently the featured photographer on Land Rover USA’s Tumblr blog (while yours truly is the driver), and is the Director of Marketing who put on the United Colors of Fashion gala in New York this week. Saunak did it along with the Branding for UCOF with the help of his awesome Marketing Team. To check out more of his work, visit

A sneak peek at the new collections from GLITTERRINGS and Jill Zarin

Lucky Duck enjoys a private viewing of the beautiful new collection from GLITTERRINGS.

During Fashion Week in February, I got introduced to GLITTERRINGS and Jill Zarin, and I was impressed right away. The jewelry is beautiful, and I love that you get such a high quality piece at such a reasonable price.

Inside the GLITTERRINGS showroom

This week, I received a very special invitation to the GLITTERRINGS showroom on 5th Avenue in New York City. A bright light on Jill Zarin’s new collections

As I walked into the gorgeous and sparkly showroom, I was taken aback by the beauty of everything on the table to my left. I was greeted with such kindness and was offered a Bellini and a Baked By Melissa cupcake. Karen walked me through each new collection out on display.

Thank you, Rusk hair care: The Thermal Flat Iron Spray and Silver Glitter Hairspray rock

Rusk Thermal Flat Iron Spray and Silver Glitter Hair Spray

Lucky Duck thanks Rusk for the awesome sprays.

When I attended the lounge at Yotel during Fashion Week, I interviewed two executives from the Rusk line – Gretchen Shomo, Director Brand Development and Gerard Caruso, Rusk Artistic Director. While Gerard recommended the Rusk Thermal Flat Iron Spray, Gretchen recently sent it to my place, to try and review. She also included the Silver Glitter Hairspray.

I love the products

It is such a pleasure to get these products to try. I would definitely recommend using a thermal spray every time before you flat iron or curl your hair. It’s a great way to protect your hair from breakage, and it also acts as a hairspray and helps your style last longer. A two for one!

Here’s some commentary in Fireside Chat #7!

Thank you for the products, Rusk! I can’t wait to get my hands on the Gold Glitter hairspray coming out this holiday season.

Chanel Illusion Ombre, NARS Shadow Pencil, and the NARS 15×15 book at Book Marc in The West Village

My makeup kit

Lucky Duck recommends Chanel and NARS eye makeup.

As The Oscars are unfolding on television tonight, the dresses and jewelry are causing quite a buzz – rightfully so. My favorite moment from The Red Carpet this year was seeing Queen Latifah in Badgley Mischka!

Lucky Duck is taking a different angle on beauty and fashion tonight and talking about makeup, again.

Let me establish credibility

I was a Spokesperson for Estee Lauder for years and would present at Macy’s department stores, all across Western Washington.

Shannon Harms is a spokesperson for Estee Lauder

Beauty Fashion magazine quoted me in Downtown Seattle.

Shannon Harms-Truax in Beauty Fashion Magazine

Chanel Illusion Ombre

My first makeup technique in my original makeup post from Seattle is:

1. Start your lid with an eye shadow base; it will help prevent your shadow from creasing and will bring out the color of your powder shadow.

Chanel’s Illusion Ombre is my new favorite, preferred choice for a nice creamy shadow to pat on first. I’ve been using this product for three weeks and am very pleased. It doesn’t crease, and you can use the brush that comes with it to swipe on over your eyeliner for instant pop, shimmer, and shine.

Chanel Illusion Ombre

Top row, left to right: Vision, Mirafique, Fantasme; Bottom row, left to row: Epatant, Apparence

The makeup is spongy to the touch and glides on nicely. The colors are sheer, which is nice for a casual look all by itself, or as a wonderful base to layer on your other stuff.

And because my second tip in my original technique blog post  is…

2. You can wear any color of eye shadow; you just have to find the right shade.

… I want to clarify the difference between Vision on the top left corner above and Apparence, in the bottom right corner, for you shimmery gold lovers out there. Vision is a bright gold (swatch on the far left on my hand below), and Apparence has more color density to it (far right, below). They are different enough to get both, especially when Vision is a Limited Edition.

Chanel Illusion Ombre swatches

NARS Soft Touch Shadow Pencil

I am in love with three of the NARS Soft Touch Shadow Pencils. Pictured below, top to bottom: Corcovado, Empire, and Aigle Noir.

NARS Soft Touch Shadow Pencils

Because tip #4 in my original post is…

4. Don’t miss seasonal products that are limited editions.

I made sure to follow Chanel Vision suit and not miss the golden Corcovado Soft Touch Shadow Pencil that NARS put out for Spring this year. These pencils are not dry and painful to use. They glide on nicely as a smooth gel, and you really don’t have to sharpen it very often. I think I will have these FOREVER.

TIP: You can keep pencils longer in your kit because you sharpen them when they wear; they don’t just sit in the box growing bacteria.

My favorite technique with these products

I have been enjoying putting down the Chanel Vision or Apparence first, and penciling Aigle Noir on my lid. Then, I’ll take a light Clinique powder shadow in a beige-gold color and go over everything to smooth it out.

Francois NARS photographs his celeb canvases

And I was such a Lucky Duck today to have found NARS’ 15×15 book on Book Marc’s Sale table today in The West Village!! There are many reasons why this is cool:

  • It is numbered copy 430 of 1500, so it’s a collector’s edition! And what’s more, my lucky number is 43.
  • It has a price tag of 86 pounds (equivalent to almost $200 USD) inside, but I got it for only $10.00! Ten. Dollars.

Book Marc in The West Village

  • It is absolutely stunning, and Marc Jacobs is featured.

Marc Jacobs in NARS 15x15 book

Book Marc is a Marc Jacobs store

I asked my sales person about the book shop, Book Marc (LOVE the clever name!), which sits diagonally from Marc Jacob’s’ clothing store. This location was historically an important book store in NYC, so when the space became available, Marc picked it up and began carrying books, since his clothing stores feature cool books anyway.

Recap: Lucky Duck’s experiences at New York City Fashion Week, Fall 2013

Kate Upton makes an appearance at Fashion Week

Lucky Duck and Karlie Kloss hang out at the Mercedes-Benz display.

It was incredible to live in New York during Fashion Week and participate is so many events around the city. Being new, I’m proud of myself for getting into so many important events – and I’m proud that I didn’t let the blizzard stop me.

“Fashion waits for no one, and it doesn’t stop for snow.” – Me, Fireside Chat #1

  • 4 Runway shows
  • 4 Style Lounges
  • 4 Designers’ private parties
  • 2 Presentations of a new line
  • 1 amfAR gala
  • 1 Gifted green blouse
  • 1 Gifted clutch
  • 1 Gifted GLITTERRINGS ring
  • 1 Huge bag of Fashion Week swag

My New York City Fashion Week TOC

I have several blog posts floating around right now, so I wanted to pull all of my Fashion Week posts together for quick access. The pictures below show what I wore to the event and click to the corresponding blog post.

Shannon Harms at Red Dress Heart Life Gala
Diet Coke The Heart Truth Red Dress Collection

This is the jewel that kicks off Fashion Week in New York City every year. Top tier designers, such as Badgley Mischka and Oscar de la Renta, create beautiful red gowns for celebrities to strut. Toni Braxton, Kelly Osbourne, Jillian Michaels, and Kris Jenner were among the stars who walked the runway.

Me at Rebecca Minkoff
Front Row at Rebecca Minkoff

It was unbelievably exciting to sit on the runway for one of the coolest shows during Fashion Week. Minkoff brought a live band onstage to keep the tempo upbeat for her fantastic new collection.

Cesar Galindo and me
Cesar Galindo’s private party at Toy

As the blizzard continued to come down, I put on my boots and walked down to Gansevoort Meatpacking to attend Galindo’s party, where models danced with feathers on the bar and spun from the ceiling. Loved that Cesar and I were both in cozy fashionable sweaters.

Shannon Harms and Duro Olowu
Duro Olowu presents his new collaboration

Duro gave me two pieces from his new collection, and on March 1st, you can get your hands on his collection at JCP in-store and online. The collection includes apparel, accessories, and housewares. Awesome lounge, hosted by The Daily Front Row.

The Daily Front Row Style Lounge

Hands down, the best lounge at Fashion Week. The Daily Front Row brought in awesome vendors, music, and provided an open bar. I loved spending time at Yoplait, mixing chocolate chips and coconut into my Key Lime Greek Yogurt with Aussie Model Nicole Trunfio!

Conair picture
Second row at Stacy Igel with interviews

This was the first time I had the chance to visit a different tent. The Conair Style 360 tent was awesome, and Stacy’s show was FUN. She introduced a new kids line, had Gia Giudice showing it off, and gave us a British Invasion-Style live performance by Leah Labelle! After the show, Stacy and Rosario Dawson gave me a quick interview.

Badgley Mischka presents their best line yet

This collection was so me. I wore a Badgley Mischka black, gold, silver, snake-like jeweled caftan, which I thought was perfect, given it’s The Year of the Golden Snake! Selita Ebanks took a photo with me backstage and said I was pretty. Mark and James were so nice.

Of Whonder
Of Whonder is a brand new line for plus-sizes

Blog post to come. John, who ran PR for this exclusive event at Arena, is in the process of providing me photos from the step and repeat. This line is very cool, and I can’t wait to write up the post!

Bright Box Pete and Me
RUSK Lounge at Yotel

I had the opportunity to interview the Brand Director for RUSK/BaBliss/Conair, the Creative Director for RUSK, the Co-Founder of Bright Box, Eric of The Art of EMJ, and Foco Coconut Water.

GLITTERRINGS gifts me a beautiful ring

With such a huge Swarovski Elements stone and leather inlay, I was surprised to find out that GLITTERRINGS are actually affordable. I love my GLITTERRINGS ring and have been wearing it around the clock.

Mercedes-Benz put on another fabulous Fashion Week

Mercedes-Benz had an awesome setup, as usual! During Fashion Week in September of 2011, for example, I was very pleased to see that the SLS on display matched my outfit (left, below). This year, I was thrilled to see that Kristi, who is in the photo with me, was back in the tent (right, below).

Shannon Harms and Mercedes SLS at Fashion Week Kristi and I at the tent

I was also happy to see a new face over at Mercedes – Gabriel’s adorable face! We took pictures in the TRESemme photo booth, and he grabbed a shot of me with the car.

TRESemme Photo Booth with Gabriel Shannon Harms at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week

Every year, Badgley Mischka is my big show, and because I’ve always flown in from Seattle, it’s usually the only event that I attend. (However, in 2011, I attended the Betsey Johnson show, which brought my total to two.) This year, I attended at least one event per day, every day of Fashion Week.

GLITTERRINGS and the Jill Zarin Jewelry Collections dazzle at NYC Fashion Week

Lucky Duck is blinded by the sparkle of GLITTERRINGS.

After the Badgley Mischka fashion show, I walked over to The Stone Rose Lounge to enjoy some time at The Daily Front Row Style Lounge – and I’m glad I did. I was introduced to GLITTERRINGS!

GLITTERRINGS is a stunning product

I saw a lot of beautiful things on the runways during Fashion Week, but I have to say that one of the best things that I saw, hands down, is the Heather ring, by GLITTERRINGS, and I’ve been wearing it around the clock for the last three days.

And it’s affordable

It’s the Year of the Snake, so right away the cool snake skin leather inlay caught my eye. And I love the steely silver Hematite. But the stone – wow, it’s a huge and truly gorgeous Swarovski Elements stone. I immediately priced this out at about $400 just by looking at it, and I’m generally spot on when I guess a price point. Well guess what – I was off. WAY. OFF. Heather goes for $65.00 on the website.

A look at some other beautiful pieces in the collection

On the Store product page, you can find these.

The Jill Zarin Collection is beautiful and sophisticated

You can also check out the new line by Jill Zarin, which includes two distinct styles. On one end, you have a collection inspired by the signature neighborhoods of New York City: Downtown, Lincoln Center, Chinatown, Broadway, and The Upper East Side. The second style includes fashion statements that are inspired by Jill’s travels around the world.

I am very excited to have a GLITTERRINGS, and I am going to buy a gunmetal colored nail polish this weekend to celebrate this gorgeous new ring!
